Aspen Trees

*

Here are four photos of autumnal yellow aspen trees along the mountain road from Taos to Tierra Amarilla (on the way to Chama and Dulce). Tierra Amarilla means "Yellow Earth" in Spanish, and I suppose that the coloring of the autumn landscape was one reason for this name. I'd never seen aspen trees before this trip, and I was most impressed. Notice in the second photo how the aspens look like fires amongst the green pines and junipers: hence the high-mountain name "Angel Fire" for a ski village near Taos? It makes sense to me. These photos were taken at an elevation of about 8,000 feet, maybe a bit higher than that.
