Echo Amphitheater

*

On our way back from Dulce to Española, where we stayed overnight, Carrie and I passed by the Echo Amphitheater, about 40 miles north of Española. If she had not been with me and already seen this before, I doubt that I would have thought to stop here. She was happy that we arrived before dark.

There is a parking area with restrooms and picnic tables. Then one walks about 100 yards/meters down a path into the heart of the amphitheater, shown in the first photo. If you shout, clap your hands or make some other loud noise, there is an immediate echo from the canyon walls, which themselves look almost as if they have been hand-painted in tropical pastels. It is a most impressive sight to see.

The second photo is a shot to the left (south) of the amphitheater, and the third, a shot to the right (north). The Sun was setting behind the mountain, giving the amphitheater a sort of neutral light in the early dusk.
